Notre Dame de Royan Church is incomparable by its elliptical silhouette 45 m long, easily recognizable, and being able to resemble a vessel, but also by its contemporary style with the widespread use of raw concrete .

It is located not far from the site of the old neo-Gothic Notre-Dame church built in 1874 and destroyed during the bombings in 1945. After the Second World War, the architect Guillaume Gillet was chosen to build the new church, together with two engineers Bernard Lafaille and René Sarget.

Construction will take place in 1955 and 1958. Almond-shaped, facing east, the nave of the church rises to 35 meters in height. The bell tower rises to 60 meters in height.
