Of course, it's also possible to visit thatched cottage villages in Brittany, whether in Finistère or Loire-Atlantique. In the commune of Névez, in Finistère, you'll find two thatched cottage villages: Kerascoet and Kercanic.
The thatched cottage village of Kerascoet is located in the commune of Névezbetween the villages of Kerstalen and Port Manec'h.
From the town of Névez, take the D77 towards Port Manec'h, then turn right towards the village of Kerascoet, following the signs.
You can park in the parking lot on the route de Rospico beach. Please note that it is not possible to drive through the village, and that parking is compulsory. Parking is free of charge.
The village of Kerascoet comprises around fifteen thatched cottages. They are grouped together along the main axis, a small pedestrian road accessible from the free parking lot.
The thatched cottage village of Kercanic is located in the commune of Névez, between the villages of Raguénez, Célan and the Dourveil beach.
From the town of Névez, take the road leading to the village of Raguénez, then turn right at Célan, following the signs.
You can park in the small square in the center of the village.
The village of Kercanic comprises just under 10 thatched cottages. They are grouped together along the main axis, a small road that leads to the Dourveil beach and the Trévignon road.
The town of Névez is famous for its fine sandy beaches and unspoilt blue waters. It's ideally situated between Trégunc and Pont-Aven.
From Port Manech or the pointe de Trévignon, you can embark for the Glénan archipelago, or the town of Pont-Aven, home of the painters.
Of course, as explained above, you can take advantage of its beaches - Rospico beach, Port Panech beach, Tahiti beach, Raguénez beach, Kersidan beach, Dourvei beach - as well as its many activities and market...
But don't forget to take the time to (re) discover the architecture of the neo-Breton houses, the thatched cottages (de Kerascoet or Kercanic), or the cultural elements of Breton heritage.
Port Manech
Port Manech is a village in the commune of Névez, at the mouth of the river Aven. It boasts a beautiful beach, with a breathtaking view over the mouths of the Aven and Belon rivers, and a port that was once home to sardine fishermen. Port Manech had its heyday in the Belle Epoque, and the wooden bathing cabins still stand as a reminder of this glorious past.
Here again, a well-known painter, Paul Gauguin, liked to come and paint fishermen or women in Breton headdresses when he stayed at Pont-Aven.
The thatched cottage village of Kerhinet is located in the commune of Saint-Lyphard in the Loire Atlantique region, in the Brière nature park.
From the town of Guérande, take the D774 towards Herbignac, then turn right and follow the signs.
You can park in the large parking lot to the south of the village, then walk into the village.
