Talmont sur Gironde cemetery is located on the promontory of the village's peninsula. Talmonton the Gironde estuary, in the Charente Maritime region, close to Ste Radegonde church. It's a marine cemetery that brings together two former Protestant and Catholic cemeteries, several tombs, some dating back to the 18th century, and several cenotaphs.

Talmont cemetery - a reflection of the village's history

A testimony to the town's history, Talmont Sur Gironde's cemetery was still divided into two distinct cemeteries, one Catholic, the other Protestant, until the 1950s. What we see today is what remains of the former medieval cemetery, which surrounded the churches of Saintonge.

You can enjoy this unique place in season, filled with hollyhocks, and close to the church of Ste Radegonde, dedicated to a Thuringian princess who became Queen of the Franks by marrying Clotaire I, son of Clovis.

Talmont sur Gironde is a village located on the right bank of the Gironde estuary near the towns of Meschers sur Gironde and  St Georges de Didonne. It's very pleasant to stroll along the narrow streets lined with hollyhocks. It's remarkable because it's located on a peninsula. It used to be a walled city. 

Not far from Talmont, you can visit  Meschers sur GirondeMeschers and its many places to visit: start with the Meschers church, then head for the port. Continue to ,  the cliffs and its famous carrelets, then explore the most famous beaches: the conche de Cadet, the Nonnes beach and the Vergnes beach.
