Where is Les Vergnes beach in Meschers?

It is located between Plage des Nonnes and Plage de l'Arnèche, in the Suzac forest, not far from the commune of Royan. You can get there by taking the D25.

Is it safe to swim at the beach?

Swimming is possible all year round, but please note that the beach is supervised in season. There are two bars on either side of the beach, one of which doubles as a brasserie.

What to do near Les Vergnes beach in Meschers?

You can hike along the coastal path, mountain bike in the Suzac forest, and even go hiking.

Near the Plage des Vergnes are the Plage des Nonnes and the small Plage de l'Arnèche, and further along is the famous Conche des Cadets, where legend has it that Cadet, a pirate, lured ships that came aground on the rocks, so that he could then plunder them.

Heading towards Saint Georges de Didonne, you'll find the beautiful Suzac beach.

Where to swim near Vergnes beach?

The Nonnes beach in Meschers 

The Nuns' Beach in Meschers is one of the best-known beaches in the town of Meschers sur Gironde. It's located between Plage des Vergnes and Conche de Cadet, surrounded by the Meschers cliffs, at the entrance to the Gironde estuary.

It's a sandy beach where you can swim. The atmosphere is family-friendly, and there are plenty of activities on offer, as well as refreshments and drinks.

In summer, the beach is bustling with activity, and parking is available nearby on the surrounding avenues. The beach is supervised during the day in July and August. Information on the Royan Atlantique website.

La Plage de l'Arnèche

The Arnèche Beach in Meschers is a little-known beach in Meschers, on the road to Saint Georges de Didonne, accessible only on foot via a narrow path.

It is located between Plage des Vergnes and Plage de Suzac, in the Suzac forest.

The beach is a small, sandy cove surrounded by a forest of limestone cliffs typical of the banks of the Gironde estuary.

La conche de Cadet

La Conche de Cadet is a typical beach located in Meschers Sur Gironde, between the Régulus and Matata caves on one side, and the Nonnes beach on the other.

It can only be reached by a long, steep staircase and is surrounded by the high limestone cliffs typical of Meschers Sur Gironde, dotted with troglodyte caves. Atop the cliffs hang pretty houses overlooking the Gironde estuary.

The cliffs are often home to tree stumps and trunks, which are deposited there after heavy storms. From the top of the cliffs, you can see the village of Talmont sur Gironde in the distance.
